nextbike and Aktion Baum
Being passionate cyclists, naturally, we love spending time outdoors. Fresh air and discovering nature in an active way are just two reasons that make us take the bicycle. But these are the crucial ones when it comes to our cooperation with “Aktion Baum”.
For every monthly tariff, we donate 1 EUR to the non-profit organization to finance the planting of two seedlings in a German forest.
Because nextbike thinks global, but acts local – and environmental protection should start at your own doorstep.
WHO CAN JOIN?
All of you!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
With our monthly tariff, the first 30 minutes per rental are free (every additional 30 minutes / 1 EUR). The booking is super easy via subscriptions within your account settings in the nextbike app.
Afterwards, simply enter the code “BAUM21” within the voucher section. We count the tariffs and donate the overall amount to “Aktion Baum”.
WHAT WILL WE PLANT?
“Aktion Baum” plants mixed forests instead of monocultures. Many different treespecies like oak, pine, black walnut, maple and fir guarantee a biodiverse ecosystem.
WHERE DO WE PLANT?
We chose “Aktion Baum” as our partner, because they solely support German afforestation projects. To be precise, in Baden-Württemberg, Northrhine-Westphalia and Saxony. It is important to us to act local and to campaign against the forest dieback here in Germany. . Besides, you can visit the forest and see for yourself how it grows.
WHY “AKTION BAUM”?
Local focus! We want to do our bit to protect German forests. The 2020 report on the condition of German forests states that 685,000 acres have to be afforested. So, we want to start right there.
Seedlings! A forest as we know it, obviously, does not grow overnight. Afforestations starts with planting young and tiny trees, and these are expensive. Therefore, “Aktion Baum” has the objective to cultivate their own seedlings and plant them with the help of volunteers. This decreases the costs and so, overall, more seedlings can be planted.
DID YOU KNOW THAT…
Conifers absorb almost twice as much Carbon Dioxide as deciduous trees?
But careful, in the long run a mixed forest absorbs most Carbon Dioxide.
If you plant a mixed forest, you need a much bigger area?
The seedlings are planted less closely together. It takes about 5,000 to 7,000 trees for a hectare (100 x 100 metre).
The seedlings need to be taken care of by foresters until their 5th birthday?
They protect them for example with wire or netting to keep animals away and free them from surrounding vegetation regularly to guarantee enough water flow. Thanks to these measures, the young trees can thrive properly.
