Everything you need to know about our latest app update!

Do you have questions about the new nextbike app update, how to get it, and what changes it entails? No problem! Here you can find all the important information about the update – from new functions and improvements to general changes.

When will the new app update be available?

The app update will be made available in a gradual rollout. This means that initially, only a certain percentage of users will have access to the update from the 2nd of April. The percentage will be gradually increased over the course of the week between the 2nd and the 6th of April 2025 until all users have access to the new version.

Do I have to reinstall the app to get the update?

No, you do not need to reinstall the app. The update will be downloaded automatically via the App Store/Google Play Store if you have set up automatic updates. If you are not using automatic updates, you must confirm the update in the App Store/Google Play Store. You will remain logged in.

Where can I update the app?

For Android:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
  2. Tap on the menu symbol (three horizontal lines) in the top left-hand corner.
  3. Select ‘My apps and games’.
  4. Here you will see a list of apps for which updates are available. Tap on ‘Update all’ or search for the desired app and tap on ‘Update’.

For iPhone:

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on your profile picture at the top right.
  3. Scroll down to see a list of available updates.
  4. Tap on ‘Update all’ to update all apps or tap on ‘Update’ next to the desired app.

The update will then be downloaded and installed automatically.

Alternatively, you can also go directly to the app pages in the app stores and click on ‘Update’ when an update is available.

What happens if I don't install the update?

Version 4 of the nextbike app can still be used, but only with limited support. App version 4 will be switched off in the medium term. We therefore recommend installing the update as soon as possible in order to benefit from the new functions and improvements.

Will it cost me anything to update?

The update is free of charge

What is new?

We have implemented the following improvements with this update:

  • A more precise presentation and clearer explanation of return options and operating areas will make it easier for you to rent and return bikes
  • The map view will follow a new, intuitive logic in the future. Bikes and stations will be displayed more clearly than before. Flex zones will be shown in yellow, return streets in white and areas where bikes may not be parked in red. When you select a bike or station, the relevant valid return options will appear on the screen with an explanation
  • In the future, the new menu will be integrated below the map with the most important functions for direct selection
  • After completing a rental, you now have a ride summary at your disposal
  • There is a brand-specific onboarding process for new users
  • A renewed help section is available to you. Here you can efficiently report problems with the rental or the bike, view a brand-specific tutorial with the most important steps for correct rental and return, and contact customer service directly
  • The wallet feature has been completely revised and now offers you a tidy and appealing overview of available tariffs and links. Here you can also find information about the validity and expiry of existing tariffs and partner subscriptions
  • You can now find the app news integrated in the main menu below the map. If there is an important news, a pop-up will appear on the home screen and a notification sign will appear on the app news button. So you are always informed.

Will my use of the app be changed by the update?

The basic use of the app remains the same.

What should I do if the app does not work after the update?

First try restarting the app or restarting the device. If the problem persists, check whether a new version of the update is available or contact our support team.

Will my account/data be deleted by the update?

Users only need to update their nextbike app to version 5 to remain logged in to the new app.
