Our core competence
nextbike is Europe’s bike share leader. We get more and more people on bikes and make it a natural part of urban mobility. As pioneers, we have been developing sustainable bike sharing systems since 2004.
We are currently active in over 300 cities and see ourselves as a complement to bus & train. Our business model is based on cooperations with cities, transport companies, universities and businesses.
In 2019, nextbike was named test winner in the German bike sharing market by Stiftung Warentest.

OUR BUSINESS MODEL
We design cities both locally and internationally in the roles of operator, licensor and supplier. More than 16 years of experience and trustful relationships with our partners show that we are able to anchor bike sharing systems in the cities´ DNA while assuring economical stability.
PT & CITIES
We integrate our bike sharing systems directly into the public transport system and complement the public transport network.
Investors enable us to grow steadily and ensure an increasing internationalisation of nextbike.
We use our bikes not only as a means of transport, but also as mobile advertising media & secure income from advertising contracts.
With our BUSINESSbike we give employers the opportunity to offer their employees free and climate-friendly mobility.
We cooperate with universities and colleges worldwide and thus offer students and employees access to all nextbike systems.
Through licensed partners we can scale our system worldwide and greatly expand our reach.
CEO nextbike GmbH
Leonhard von Harrach
“We are the clear market leader in Europe. With the experience of a micro mobility pioneer and the innovative power of a start-up we are able to develop the best solutions for sustainable mobility. We act in almost all cities on a political mandate and are an integral part of local public transport, which becomes individually available and sustainable through our bike-sharing.”
CEO nextbike GmbH
“Over the past 16 years we have built a solid foundation of trusting partnerships. Our expertise is in demand worldwide. Together with all relevant actors, we want to make the cities more liveable and have set ourselves no less a goal than a turnaround in transport.”
nextbike is sustainable
Sustainable financing and investments are among the big trends on the capital market. The Corona pandemic seems to have reinforced this development. An important instrument in the evaluation of assets and securities is the ESG investment approach: Environmetal, Social and Governance. This means that in addition to financial performance, the dimensions of environment, social and corporate governance are also included.
The fact that nextbike’s business is environmentally friendly per se is obvious, or rather it is written on the street. With 90.000 (2021) bikes worldwide, we promote the use of the most ecological means of transport par excellence and make an important contribution to improving the quality of life in cities.
With our sustainable business model in the field of micro mobility, we fulfil several sustainability goals of the United Nations (UN), the Sustainable Development Goals („17 SDGs“). The independent sustainability rating agency imug (Institut für Umwelt-Markt-Gesellschaft) based in Hanover, has reviewed and confirmed nextbike for the following UN SDGs:
HEALTH & WELLBEING
DECENT WORK & ECONOMIC GROWTH
MEASURES FOR CLIMATE PROTECTION
